Marvel will release ‘unexpurgated’ Red Band editions of ‘Blood Hunt’

The polybagged version will come with a parental advisory label and extra pages featuring graphic art.

Marvel has announced plans to release two versions of each issue of its upcoming Blood Hunt series — the standard version, and a “Red Band” edition that will deliver more blood and guts.

The crossover series by Avengers writer Jed MacKay and X-Men artists Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia will feature the Avengers, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and more going head-to-head with the vampire nation under a sunless sky.

“Labeled with a Parental Advisory and polybagged to keep those weak of heart from experiencing its intensity, the Red Band Editions will contain additional pages and more graphic art too explicit for the regular edition,” Marvel.com reads. “Blood Hunt will mark the first time that a different edition of the same Marvel comic book is produced for more mature readers, fitting for this blood-soaked saga where vampires will viciously sink their teeth into your favorite heroes!”

The new, evil Ghost Rider will release his vengeance in March

A Marvel villain takes the mantle from Johnny Blaze in ‘Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance’ by Benjamin Percy and Danny Kim.

After teasing that Johnny Blaze would drop the Ghost Rider mantle to someone unexpected, Marvel has revealed who exactly will become the new Spirit of Vengeance — and it is Parker Robbins, aka the street-level supernatural villain The Hood.

The Hood will assume his new role in Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance in March, by regular Ghost Rider scribe Benjamin Percy and artist Danny Kim.

“The Hood wants a taste of the big-time. And he’s made a deal with the devil to help him on his way,” Percy said. “This is what happens when the Spirit of Vengeance is stripped from Johnny Blaze and grafted on to a character who has no moral compass. An epic crime saga—flavored with horror—awaits readers in Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance.”

X-Men ’97 comic leads into the Disney+ show

Steve Foxe and Salva Espín return to the world of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ in a new miniseries.

Steve Foxe and Salva Espín, the duo behind Marvel’s X-Men ’92: House of XCII, will reunite for another miniseries based on the animated mutants — a four-issue X-Men ’97 series that leads into the upcoming animated show on Disney+.

“There’s a very good chance I wouldn’t be writing comics today if not for the impact X-Men: The Animated Series had on me as a kid—heck, the voice actors from the show are still the voices I hear when I read the comics today!” Foxe said. “Getting to reunite with my X-Men ’92: House of XCII collaborator Salva Espín on this official prelude to X-Men ’97 has felt like a bucket-list project a lifetime in the making, and Beau [DeMayo] and the rest of the ’97 team gave us a fantastic runway to come up with our own original tale that feeds right into what viewers will get to experience in the new season.”

Get ready for more Kid Venom

Manga creator Taigami takes Venom back to the past for a 10th century adventure.

Kid Venom, the breakout star of Death of the Venomverse, will leap into his own miniseries next year by Taigami (Unsung Hero).

Kid Venom is Kintaro, a 10th century Japanese hero who bonded with a symbiote to save his village from evil symbiotes.

“Kid Venom was based on a one shot that I sent for a manga contest Shonen Magazine and Marvel held in 2018. One of the rules for the contest was [to use a theme or a character from Marvel and write and draw a first episode for a new series], and the theme that I chose was symbiote,” Taigami said.

Spider-Gwen swings back into the Marvel Universe next year

Stephanie Phillips and Chris Campana bring the Ghost Spider back to the 616.

After a few recent miniseries detailed what life is like for Spider-Gwen in her own universe, the Spiderverse-hopping hero will once again land in the 616 in a new title coming next year.

Writer Stephanie Phillips (Kicking Ice, Grim) and artist Chris Campana (Red Goblin, The Adventures of Parker Reef) will bring Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider to New York, home of many Marvel heroes and, of course, the home of the deceased 616 Gwen Stacey. Mark Brooks will provide covers.

“Right after I started working on this new Spider-Gwen ongoing, I saw a little girl on Halloween dressed as Gwen and hitting some cool Spidey poses,” Phillips said. “It was kind of a surreal moment to realize that I get to be a part of Gwen’s next big chapter, bringing her into the 616 and giving readers stories that make us rethink who Gwen is and what her role is within this new universe. I’m also working on this story with the incredible Chris Campana, a great collaborator and friend, and I truly believe this is one of the most special books I’ve been a part of.”

Campana echoed Phillips’ comments about working together on the series.

“Stephanie’s writing allows for a ton of artistic freedom, while providing a great framework to work inside of,” Campana said. “I was onboard the moment I heard she was attached.”

Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio helm a new ongoing series for the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool will return in a solo series next year courtesy of writer Cody Ziglar and artist Rogê Antônio.

“Wade’s been one of my favorite characters since I first got into super hero comics, so being asked to helm a Deadpool series was a dream come true,” said Ziglar, who contributed to the recent Seven Slaughters one-shot featuring Deadpool. “I look forward to diving into and exploring Wade’s family (found or otherwise), his unique approach to being a (mostly) unkillable mercenary, as well see what kinda of whackos they bring into his orbit.”

All the Wolverines team up in ‘Weapon X-Men’

The four-issue miniseries by Christos Gage and Yildiray Çinar will feature Old Man Logan, Zombie Wolverine and more.

There was a time in comics when every book hitting the shelves from Marvel seemed to feature Wolverine, and now the publisher is taking things up a level by introducing a whole team of Wolverines.

Christos Gage and Yildiray Çinar will bring together Old Man Logan, Zombie Wolverine, Earth X Wolverine and more in Weapon X-Men, a four-issue miniseries that kicks off in March.

“Getting a chance to continue to explore the Marvel Multiverse in the pages of Weapon X-Men with the amazing Yildiray Çinar is the perfect Christmas gift!” Gage said. “A team of nothing but Wolverines…one of whom, Jane Howlett, has never been seen before? Against a threat from the pages of Original X-Men? With Yildiray Çinar, whose character acting is as brilliant as his action scenes and who has a George Perez-level of skill with crowds? Moving from one alternate Earth to another? Sign me up! We are packing a TON of action, story, character moments, pathos, and sometimes literally earth-shattering moments into these four issues, so don’t miss it!”

Hulk leaps into a ‘Giant-Size’ special issue next April

Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Andrea Broccardo will introduce a new threat named Patchwork Jack in the oversized issue.

Marvel’s giant-sized celebration of the anniversary of their Giant-Size line goes Hulk-sized next April, as Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Andrea Broccardo team up for Giant-Size Incredible Hulk.

Johnson, the writer of the ongoing Incredible Hulk series, has been bringing his A-game to the title, introducing and re-introducing all sorts of monsters for the Jade Giant to fight. In this oversized issue, the Hulk will encounter a new threat named Patchwork Jack.

“The North Star I’ve been following on Incredible Hulk is to make EVERY ISSUE a horror and action showcase for the rockstar artists I’ve been so fortunate to work with,” Johnson told Marvel.com. “I’ve pulled out all the stops to ensure readers don’t miss out on a single page of this book’s potential: new lore, new monsters, fan-favorite guest appearances from across the Marvel U, the most jaw-dropping fights imaginable, the gnarliest transformations Hulk has ever experienced… I want this to be a run that readers never forget. And when my editors asked for a Giant-Size Incredible Hulk one-shot, I knew we had to ramp all that up even more.”

Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen go double-sized in March

Marvel announces plans for ‘Giant-Size Spider-Gwen,’ Miles Morales #300 in Los Angeles.

During a panel at this weekend’s L.A. Comic Con, Marvel announced two extra-sized doses of the Spider-gang that will arrive in stores next March.

Spider-Gwen will get the Giant-Size spotlight in Giant-Size Spider-Gwen by Melissa Flores and Alba Glez, while Miles Morales will celebrate 300 issues in the oversized Miles Morales: Spider-Man #18 by Cody Ziglar and a host of artists, including Sara Pichelli and Federico Vicentini.

“To be completely honest, it’s very surreal to be able to write Miles’ 300th issue,” Ziglar said. “This is a character I’ve been following and rooting for for almost 12 years now. There’s so much crammed into this issue and I’m forever grateful that I have been trusted to continue to carry the torch for Miles after [Brian Michael] Bendis and [Saladin] Ahmed.”
