Comics Lowdown: Walking Dead to end, Remembering Bernie Wrightson

The Walking Dead will die: Creator Robert Kirkman has confirmed that the Walking Dead will have an ending. At the Walking Dead panel in San Diego, Kirkman told fans, “I think about two or three years ago, I had a pretty good idea for a definitive ending. I have known that since then and been working towards that, so I know exactly where I’m going and what’s going to happen when I get there.” He expects the series will wrap up in the next 2-3 years.

Jeff Lemire returns to DC Comics for ‘The Terrifics,’ Hawkman

Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Plastic Man and Phantom Girl will comprise a new team written by Lemire and dranw by Ivan Reis.

Former Animal Man, Green Arrow and Justice League Dark writer Jeff Lemire will return to DC Comics for two titles related to the Fall crossover event Dark Knights: Metal.

Ed Piskor to compile Uncanny X-Men #1-280 into one ‘Grand’ story

‘X-Men: Grand Design’ will retell the classic comics into retro-stylized six-issue miniseries.

During the “Marvel: The Next Big Thing” panel at San Diego Comic Con, the publishing giant announced a unique way to present classic comic stories to modern audiences. X-Men: Grand Design will retell the first 280 issues of The Uncanny X-Men into a stunningly compact six 40-page issue miniseries.

Shelly Bond’s Black Crown expands with three more titles

New comics by Tini Howard, Gilbert Hernadez, David Barnett and Martin Simmonds, plus an anthology, set to debut after ‘Kid Lobotomy.’

When Shelly Bond’s Black Crown comics line was announced earlier this year, we were told “Black Crown” not only referred to the line’s name, but also to a pub that would anchor this shared, creator-owned universe. Bad, bad Batmans: The Dark Knights rise at Comic-Con

Corrupt versions of Batman prepare to invade the DCU from the Dark Multiverse.

The Dark Multiverse is imminent in Dark Knights: Metal, as Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s big event series is set to kick off in August. At Comic-Con International, DC Comics revealed a look at some of the denizens of the Dark Multiverse who will plague the regular DCU during the event. Oh yeah — they’re all Batmans:

IDW announces ‘Jem and the Holograms’ anthology series

Kate Leth, Tana Ford, Sophie Campbell and more lined up to contribute stories.

IDW Publishing has announced a new anthology series set in the world of Jem and the Holograms. The series will feature rotating creatives teams and two stories in each issue, starting with Kate Leth, Tana Ford and original Jem and the Holograms artist Sophie Campbell.

“Sophie, along with series regular writer Kelly Thompson, took the classic Jem and the Holograms concept, and reimagined it for a new generation of Jem fans,” said Sarah Gaydos, IDW Group Editor, in a press release. “Now, with Dimensions, the floodgates have been opened for creators new to Jem to come play in Kelly and Sophie’s arena for an all-star jam session.”

Batgirl and Supergirl hit the road as ‘Gotham City Garage’ statues

DC Collectibles reveals new Gotham City Garage, DC Bombshells merch at Comic-Con.

After announcing a Gotham City Garage comic last week, DC Collectibles revealed two new sculptures at Comic-Con International for the popular series. One features Batgirl showing off her skills, while the other features Supergirl.

“The idea behind Gotham City Garage is to explore the tough and gritty alter-egos of DC’s most iconic characters such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and now Batgirl and Supergirl,” said Jim Fletcher, executive creative director, DC Collectibles. “Just like with DC Bombshells, it’s exciting to see these character designs strike a chord with fans and transcend from statues into comic books and beyond, and we’re eager to find out just how far Gotham City Garage can ride.”

D+Q bring Aline Kominsky-Crumb, Julie Doucet comics back to print

DC Collectibles reveals more Artist Alley statues

At Comic-Con this week, DC revealed new designs by Sho Murase, HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque and Chris Uminga.

Back in May DC Collectibles announced a new line of “Artist Alley” vinyl statues that “merges indie design with the most iconic characters in the DC Universe.” During Comic-Con International this week, they revealed additional sculpts by the artists tapped for the first wave. The new figures revealed this week include Wonder Woman by Chris Uminga, Batman by HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque, and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn by Sho Murase.

Comics Lowdown: Frank Miller sued for $1M by ex-business manager

Plus: Wonder Woman fights human trafficking, Jody Houser, Ben Hatke, and lots of SDCC news reporting

Frank Miller’s former business manager of 28 years has filed a lawsuit against the writer-director for over $1 million in damages for breach of contract.  Mark Lichtman claims he is entitled to 10 percent of Miller’s entertainment earnings of over $15 million from projects like Sin City, 300 and The Spirit, and was a key part of developing Miller’s career.

Ghostbusters + Ninja Turtles team up in second crossover

Five-issue series will be released weekly starting Nov. 1.

When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles get stuck in a ghost dimension, who ya gonna call?

At Comic-Con International, IDW answered that question the only way possible — with a second Ghostbusters/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover comic, which will come out weekly for five weeks starting Nov. 1.

“When Erik and I first broached the idea of joining the TMNT with the Ghostbusters way back when, it felt like a wonderfully impossible dream,” said co-writer Tom Waltz. “Well, that dream came true with the first volume in a big way, and now I’m absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity to once again help bring my two favorite quartets together for another massive comic book crossover event! And, like the first go-around, the events in this story directly flow out of and affect the storylines in both ongoing series.”

I can’t express how much I adore this Harley Quinn ‘Expressions’ figure

DC Collectibles releases images of several new ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ figures and toys, including a Jokermobile.

DC Collectibles has been releasing and revealing new action figures based on the Batman: The Animated Series designs that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm made so popular. Some of them fall into the “Expressions” line, where the figures come with extra faces with, as you might guess, different expressions. We’ve seen Batman and Joker, but at Comic-Con International this week they revealed the best one so far — Harley Quinn.
