D + Q will publish Michael DeForge’s ‘Birds of Maine’ next year

Honorable librarians rejoice: DeForge’s award-nominated Instagram comic is coming to print.

Michael DeForge’s Birds of Maine will migrate from Instagram to print next year, as Drawn and Quarterly have announced plans to publish it as a graphic novel in the Spring of next year.

DeForge has been posting comics featuring a post-apocalyptic reality where birds live their best lives after the fall of humanity — until the last-remaining human crash lands from the moon.

They initially launched Grass of Parnassus on Instagram, although the account for it no longer exists. You can, however, see a lot of artwork, sketches and behind-the-scenes information on the Immonens’ Twitter feed. And you can check out a trailer for it below:

Four pitches remain in DC’s competition that allows fans to choose their next title.

DC Comics has opened up voting for round three of their Round Robin competition, where fans vote on which comic book concept they’d like to see made and published. They’ve also released preview pages for each of the four concepts to give you a better sense as to what exactly you’re voting for.

The competition started about a month ago, as DC pitted 16 comic book pitches against each other, March Madness style, and let fans vote on the one they wanted to see become a real comic. After two round of voting, they’ve narrowed it down to four pitches:

DC reveals the final four in their ‘Round Robin’ brackets

The fans have spoken.

Earlier this month DC kicked off their 2020 Round Robin competition, pitting 16 comic book pitches against each other, March Madness style, and letting fans vote on the one they wanted to see become a real comic.

For round one, they revealed the pitch, but refrained from identifying the creative teams until voting for that round closed. Fans went into round two knowing who would be working on each entry, and here’s how the voting landed:

DC launches a Batman ‘prelude’ comic on Instagram

The story leads into ‘Batman’ #92, which arrives in June.

Batman made his Instagram debut this week in a comic that will serve as a “prelude” to Batman #92, which is set to land in stores on June 9.

“Hey! While on break, I cooked up a handful of prelude stories with Guillem March to give you a taste of Gotham while you’re waiting for Batman to return next month,” writer James Tynion IV said on Twitter. “They’ll be on DC’s Instagram, in their stories. The first of them is up now, featuring PUNCHLINE!”

‘Pooot!’: Kathryn and Stuart Immonen have a new Instagram comic

‘Grass of Parnassus’ is described as “‘Never As Bad As You Think’ — in space!”

Grass of Parnassus is the new comic by the team of Kathryn and Stuart Immonen — and you can follow along on Instagram.

The husband and wife duo have worked together in the past on Never As Bad As You Think, Moving Pictures and Marvel’s Hellcat. The first teaser post on the account described the new story as “Never As Bad As You Think — in space,” so if you’re familiar with their previous work, you have an idea of what they’re planning. They’ve been posting three to five panels each week for the past five weeks, so there’s a good chunk of story to read right now.

Here are a few of my favorite panels thus far, and you can see more on Instagram:
