Three Count | Black Phoenix, Backstory, System Error

Check out three crowdfunding campaigns on the newly launched Crowdfundr platform.

To Support: A bunch of stuff on the new crowdfunding site Crowdfundr

Crowdfundr is a brand-new crowdfunding site that just launched recently and is already hosting several comics and comics-related crowdfunding campaigns. It can be used for other things, of course, like music and film, but who cares about that stuff — there’s comics to be had! Comics!

“Our goal is for Crowdfundr to be the most creator-friendly crowdfunding platform,” said ConnectionPoint President David Barach. “That’s why we offer it for free and include other creator friendly features like being able to roll a campaign over into a store and include more reward choices for supporters. We also have special features for indie publishers and studios to collaborate with their creators and run concurrent campaigns. I think creators are going to be pleasantly surprised at the ways we support them, now and with future enhancements, toward sustainable and continuous crowdfunding for their work.”

I thought I’d dedicate this edition of Three Things to highlighting some of the cool stuff that’s up on the new site now:

comiXology adds seven titles to their ‘Originals’ line

New titles by Sam Humphries, Kel McDonald, Tyler Crook, Tim Seeley, Mike Norton and more join the growing line.

In June comiXology released four new titles as part of their comiXology Originals line, as they expanded the program to include creator-owned titles and a print-on-demand option. Today in San Diego, a dapper Chip Mosher, comiXology’s head of content, announced seven new titles coming to the line, four of which are available now.

“When we debuted the first wave of creator owned comiXology Original titles, we launched all five issues of the Superfreaks series in one day so readers could binge read the series at once. No one had ever done that before, and that’s just the tip of what we have planned,” said comiXology’s Head of Content Chip Mosher. “Today we are making history again with Goliath Girls, which is releasing simultaneously in English and Japanese. Going forward we’ll continue to push the envelope with new ways to connect with readers. It’s great to be able to offer the over 100 million Prime members worldwide the opportunity to experience these great books.”

The four book now available on their site include:

More ‘Goosebumps’ coming from IDW

Jen Vaughn and Michelle Wong offer a modern take on the classic Goosebumps book ‘Say Cheese and Die!’

IDW announced back in July that they will publish a comic series based on R.L. Stine’s popular Goosebumps books by a rotating series of creators. With the first miniseries kicking off later this month, IDW has announced a second one that will follow in February.

The second three-issue arc, “DOWNLOAD AND DIE!,” is a self-contained story set in the Goosebumps universe from writer Jen Vaughn and artist Michelle Wong.

“This Goosebumps tale is going to delve into what makes friends tick and what can drive them apart,” said Vaughn. “What’s that saying, ‘you can always make new friends?’ Well, not when people find out what you did to your last ones. Michelle brought my characters to life so well…too well. They laugh, they cry, they dream, and bleed through the power of her lines. I’m terrified to read the comic now.”

Pony up $6 to support Bailey and Vaughn’s ‘Deadwater’

New 28-page “rom-spense” Western comic available via Kickstarter for one week only.

During March, Kickstarter has been actively encouraging an initiative they call “All in 1” — “a creative sprint to help you bring something new to life, simply and swiftly. Run a one-week project so you can get right to the fun part — creating.”

Cuzak Bailey and Jen Vaughn have done just that, creating a 28-page “rom-spense” comic called Deadwater, available via the crowdfunding site for one week only.
