There’s not a lot of new stuff I haven’t already covered in DC’s September solicitations, but for those looking for a round-up of what’s “new,” you’ve come to the right place. In addition to what I cover here, September will also bring the first issues of C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table and The Red Hood.

Let’s start with a Superman project by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scott Godlewski — Adventures of Superman: Book of El, which reunites the Future State: House of El team. The maxi-series was originally expected to begin earlier this year, but according to Johnson it was delayed so it could be timed to the release of the new Superman film.

Take a look inside June’s ‘Superman: The World’ hardcover

Creators from all over the world will share their takes on Superman in this anthology.

Back in 2021 DC celebrated Batman Day with the release of Batman: The World, an anthology graphic novel featuring stories about Batman by creators from all over the world. But Bruce Wayne isn’t the only global trotter in the Justice League (and let’s face it, it’s easier to do when you can fly) — this year, as part of their “Summer of Superman” initiative, DC will release Superman: The World in June.

The graphic novel will include contributions from creators from 15 different countries, including Dan Jurgens, Jorge Jimenéz, Satoshi Miyagawa, Stepan Kopriva, Dr. Ejob Gaius, Jefferson Costa Sylvian, Lee Weeks, Jorge Jimenéz, Kai Kitago, Michal Suchánek, Jefferson Costa, Marcial and more. 

“The Man of Tomorrow usually soars through the skies in Metropolis, but no matter where in the world a cry for help comes, Superman will always be there to save the day,” the press release read.

Matt Fraction + Jorge Jiménez will helm a Batman relaunch in September

“Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman.”

DC Comics announced at this week’s ComicsPro meeting that Hawkeye and Sex Criminals writer Matt Fraction will join Jorge Jiménez on Batman in the fall.

The title will launch with a new first issue in September, following the completion of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s Hush sequel.

“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Batman. It was the first comic I ever read,” said Fraction. “Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman. We’ve got a new Batmobile, we’ve got a new costume, we’ve got new characters, and we’ve got a lot of old ones too—good and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all.”

Slugfest | Prepare for the ‘Summer of Superman’ in DC’s April solicitations

With James Gunn’s Superman film arriving this summer, it’s no surprise that the Man of Steel is front and center in DC’s publishing plans for the year. The “Summer of Superman” will officially kick off in April with Summer of Superman Special #1.

The one-shot will be written by three writers — incoming Superman Unlimited writer Dan Slott, current Superman writer Joshua Williamson and all-around Krypton-ologist Mark Waid. They’ll be joined by artist Jorge Jiménez for a three-act story that will feature the wedding of Lana Lang and John Henry Irons.

Slugfest | The Green Lantern Corps flies again in DC’s February solicitations

The Green Lantern Corps will soar into a new series in February as a part of DC’s All In initiative.

The series will be written by Jeremy Adams, writer of the ongoing Green Lantern series, along with co-writer Morgan Hampton. They’ll work with artists Fernando Pasarín and Oclair Albert on the adventures of John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, Jo Mullein and more.

Jim Lee + Jeph Loeb will return to ‘Batman’ for ‘Hush 2’

Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez will wrap up their run on ‘Batman’ in February.

A classic Batman tale will get a sequel next year as Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee reunite for Hush 2, a sequel to their 2002 story arc that introduced us to the villain Hush.

They’ll be joined on the six-issue storyline by their collaborators Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair and Richard Starkings, who return as inker, colorist and letterer, respectively.

Hush 2 will run in the regular Batman title beginning in March, and will last for six issues, Lee revealed during his Jim Lee & Friends panel at the New York Comic Con. A prelude to the story will appear in Justice League Unlimited #1, which comes out Nov. 27. Lee shared some preliminary artwork on his Instagram.

This also means that Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez’s run on the title will end in February, which Zdarsky said was his choice in his latest newsletter.

Batman and Catwoman face a ‘Gotham War’ this fall

Dawn of DC continues in the fall with a crossover between Gotham’s most tumultuous couple.

DC Comics has announced a new crossover coming in the fall — Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War, part of their Dawn of DC publishing initiative. The story will run through two one-shots, the regular Batman and Catwoman titles, and a miniseries that will focus on The Red Hood.

Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard, writers of Batman and Catwoman, have been working toward this story since they each started on their respective title.

“From the moment Tini and I started working on these titles, we realized we had a huge opportunity to build toward something that would shake up the power structure of Gotham City,” Zdarsky said. “The Gotham War is just that: relationships explode, relationships are formed, and it all leads to massive changes! Being able to take these kinds of big swings together has been extremely exciting.”

DC announces Batman, Suicide Squad and more for Free Comic Book Day 2021

A ‘Fear State’ tie-in, a King Shark story and two previews aimed at younger readers highlight DC’s line-up this year.

DC Comics has announced their plans for this year’s Free Comic Book Day, revealing the four titles they plan to have available on Aug. 14.

The event is run by Diamond Comics Distributors, which DC stopped using last year as they migrated to Lunar Distribution. While Diamond won’t provide DC’s comics to retailers, they did say DC was more than welcome to participate.

Here are the four DC titles you can look for in August, which include a preview of the Batman event “Fear State” and a tie-in to the second Suicide Squad film:
