The ever lovin’ Hulkette debuts in ‘Spider-Boy’ #13

Another New Champion makes her debut next month.

Before the New Champions arrives next year, another of its members will make her in-comic debut. Hulkette, who first appeared on a variant cover for Sensational She-Hulk #1, will face off with Spider-Boy and Daredevil in Spider-Boy #13.

Created by artist Mirka Andolfo, Hulkette’s story will be told by Dan Slott and Paco Medina across several issues of Spider-Boy, including her origin.

“We’ll learn more about Hulkette and her powers as she faces off against Spider-Boy and Daredevil,” said Slott. “There’s a big surprise in store for Marvel fans when we finally drop the secret of her origins… but for now, if you want to see this pint-sized powerhouse throw her first punches on the page, this is the issue where her journey begins.”

Steve Orlando + Emilio Pilliu helm the ‘Sweet Paprika’ spinoff ‘Open for Business’

The five-issue miniseries kicks off in November.

Mirka Andolfo’s award-winning and much beloved Sweet Paprika series is getting another spinoff miniseries — Sweet Paprika: Open For Business, which will feature characters from Sweet Paprika: Black, White & Pink.

Steve Orlando, writer of seemingly everything these days, will team with Italian artist Emilio Pilliu on the five-issue series, which kicks off this fall.

“As a writer keen on getting folks excited about my work and that of my collaborators, I’ve been known to engage in hyperbole. But even so, without hesitation, I’ve never had a blast working on a book like I have with Sweet Paprika: Open for Business—it’s my favorite book to write, every month,” said Orlando. “And not just that—I’ve never synched with a collaborator like I do with Emilio. He’s subletted my brain and is elevating every single panel beyond my wildest dreams! Open for Business is raw, it’s real, it’s provocative, but most of all—it’s fun! It’s my first office comedy, and I’ve never loved working with a cast as much as this one! I can’t wait for you to meet them!”

Venom gets extreme — and an anthology series — in May

‘Extreme Venomverse’ arrives just in time for ‘Death of the Venomverse’ and ‘Summer of Symbiotes,’ as Venom celebrates his 35-year anniversary.

How easy would it be to apply the template of the Spider-Verse to Venom? We’ll find out later this year, as Marvel has announced Extreme Venomverse, an anthology series that will feature various versions of Venom from around the multiverse.

This year is the 35th anniversary of the character, who was created by Todd McFarlane and David Michelinie and had his first, full appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #300. But you have to tip your hat to the creators of Amazing Spider-Man #252 — Roger Stern, Todd DeFalco, Mike Zeck and Ron Frenz — for creating Spider-Man’s black alien costume. And are you familiar with Randy Schueller? He was a comics fan who came up with the idea for putting Spider-Man in a black costume.

The Joker break out into his own monthly series in March

Jim Gordon, Punchline and Harper Row will feature heavily in the new series.

Batman’s worst enemy and best ally will get the spotlight in a new monthly series starting in March. While the Joker gets his name on the marquee, the new comic by James Tynion IV and Guillem March will also prominently feature Jim Gordon.

But wait, there’s more: Each issue will also feature a back-up story by Tynion IV, co-writer Sam Johns and artist Mirka Andolfo, starring the Joker’s latest sidekick, Punchline, and Harper Row, a.k.a. Bluebird.

“When I was approached by DC about the concept of an ongoing series spotlighting The Joker, I thought, ‘What would that book even look like?,’” said Tynion. “I’m excited to share this story in a way that honors everything that a series about The Joker can be, while coming at it from an exciting, unexpected angle. I’m also thrilled to continue working with Sam and Mirka to expand the Punchline story we began in November as a back-up feature in this new ongoing Joker series. The Joker War was only the beginning of the terror and mayhem we’re creating!”

Joker’s latest sidekick, Punchline, has been tearing through Gotham as part of the Joker Wars storyline. Come November, she’ll get her own one-shot, thanks to James Tynion IV, Sam Johns and Mirka Andolfo.

“Back when I first introduced Punchline, I said many times that this wasn’t going to be a flash-in-the-pan character. That I had big plans for her moving forward, that would drive big story next year and beyond,” said Tynion IV. “Joker War is over, but Punchline’s plans have only just begun. I’m thrilled to be telling this frightening story that expands her past, and sets up her future, with the amazing Sam Johns, and the incredible Mirka Andolfo. This is only the beginning!”
