Captain Commando offers Shark Fiend swimming lessons in this preview of ‘Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics’ #316

Check out an exclusive preview of two new stories coming in next week’s digest from Archie Comics.

Archie Comics has shared a preview with us of Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics #316, which will feature two new stories in addition to a whole lot of classic material.

In the first new story, Mr. Lodge has hired Captain Commando to endorse his new water park, and it’s a good thing he did, as Shark Fiend shows up to cause trouble. Writer Ian Flynn, artist Steven Butler, inker Lily Butler, colorist Glenn Whitmore and letterer Jack Morelli jump into the deep end for this one.

The second story features the return of Fu Chang, International Detective, as a classic video game cartridge goes missing from the Riverdale Museum. Not only does this one offer up a parody of Knives Out, but it also has some fun with the name of the video game that fans of Hyrule and Sabrina the Teenage Witch will appreciate. Writer Francis Bonnet and artist Rex Lindsey are joined by Whitmore on this one.

Check out both previews below, along with a complete classic story featuring Betty Cooper.

The Web comes to Riverdale in ‘Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest’ #313

Check out an exclusive preview of two new stories coming in next week’s digest from Archie Comics.

Courtesy of Archie Comics, we’re happy to present a preview of two new stories from Betty & Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #313, which comes out April 19.

The publisher continues to team their vintage superhero characters with the Riverdale gang in this volume, starting with a character I don’t think we’ve seen yet in one of these digests — The Web. The character first debuted in the 1940s and has been brought back several times since then as part of the various Mighty Crusaders revamps over the year. In this story, the Web is actually Wyatt Raymond, the son of the original Web and original Pow-Girl. When Veronica’s purse goes missing, he uses his sleuthing know-how to help her find it. Writer Ian Flynn teams with Dan Parent, Bob Smith, Glenn Whitmore and Jack Morelli on this one.

Then in the second story, Dr. Zardox and his giant robotic death machine are on a rampage in Riverdale, and it’s up to the Crusaders and the Superteens to stop the madness. This one is also written by Flynn, with art by Bill Galvan, Jim Amash, Whitmore and Morelli.

Check out the previews for both stories below along with the credits and description, as well as a complete classic story written and drawn by Dan Parent.

Betty and Veronica re-imagined as biker chicks in ‘B&V Vixens’

New series by Jamie Rotante and Eva Cabrera launches in November.

Archie Comics continues its wave of “re-imaginations” of its characters with B&V Vixens, a take on Betty and Veronica as leaders of a biker gang in Riverdale. The idea for the series came from Archie editor Jamie Rotante, who will be joined by artist Eva Cabrera.

“I couldn’t be more honored and excited for the opportunity to not only let pop culture’s two most recognizable BFFs take center stage, but to give them the opportunity to kick a whole lot of ass along the way,” Rotante said to The Hollywood Reporter. “Betty and Veronica aren’t just two young ladies who happen to like the same boy — they’re two hard-working, intelligent and strong women who maintain a friendship despite their differences; consistently defying all expectations to overcome the odds stacked against them. That’s something I really wanted to explore with this series — and not just Betty and Veronica, many of the female Archie Comics characters will get a chance to tell their own unique stories in a way that’s fun and action-packed.”
