DC’s annual Halloween anthology will return in October with a new story set in the world of Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, among other stories.
Rafael Scavone and Rafael Albuquerque will co-write the story about vampire Batman, with art by Rafael Albuquerque. Albuquerque’s the co-creator of American Vampire, so he’s very familiar with fanged monsters. Released in the 1990s and created by Dog Moench and Kelley Jones, Red Rain was one of the earliest “Elseworlds” stories published by DC. It spawned two sequels.

The British Fantasy Society has announced the nominees for the 2019 British Fantasy Awards, which include a “Best Comic/Graphic Novel” category.
The entrants are selected after two rounds of nominations, and votes are tallied from the members of the British Fantasy Society and FantasyCon. Winners will be announced Oct. 20 at FantasyCon 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland. Monstress took home the award for the past two years, but isn’t nominated this year.

The creator of the award-winning The Tea Dragon Society will return with a new graphic novel, Dewdrop, in 2020.
Katie O’Neill announced the young reader’s project during the Oni Press panel at Comic-Con International this past weekend.
“I’m so happy to be creating a book for younger readers, especially one with themes of mindfulness and self-fulfillment,” Katie O’Neill said. “I hope the ideas in Dewdrop will sew seeds that may stay with children in some small way, and eventually grow when they need them most. It’s also a real honor to help with starting kids reading in any way I can, so I am very excited for them to meet Dewdrop and his friends!”

It started with teases this weekend — Tom King and Mitch Gerads, the award-winning team behind DC’s Mister Miracle miniseries, have a new project in the works. That fans, naturally, kept asking about.
“So here’s the deal. It doesn’t come out for awhile, so SDCC might be a little early to announce it,” Gerads said on Twitter. “BUT DC has told us if the Eisners go well for us tonight then we can announce it tomorrow! So fingers crossed! I’ve got covers and info ready to go!”
Things went very well for them at the Eisners Friday night, and DC was true to their word — this morning they announced via Twitter Strange Adventures, featuring Adam Strange, by Tom King, Mitch Gerads and — get this — Evan “Doc” Shaner, a man who was born to work on Adam Strange.

Jonathan Hickman’s run on the X-Men starts with House of X and Powers of X, but what happens after that?
In San Diego this weekend, Marvel revealed the details of what the X-titles would look like after these two miniseries end, announcing six titles and their creative teams. The titles will kick off in October and November.
“House of X and Powers of X lay the groundwork for a whole new world of X-Men stories for years to come, and the Dawn of X books are the promise of that new world come to life,” X-Men Senior Editor Jordan D. White told Marvel.com. “They are the start of the new era that will change how we think of the X-Men and the kinds of stories we tell with them. It all begins here.”

With the success and critical acclaim that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse received — not to mention the awesome Spidersona artwork pros and fans created after seeing it — it makes sense that Marvel would make more Spider-Verse comics.
Coming in October, they’re doing just that — writer Jed MacKay and a bunch of artists will take Miles Morales on a six-issue tour of the multiverse. MacKay will work with Juan Frigeri, Arthur Adams, Stuart Immonen, Stacey Lee and more, according to Marvel.com.

Last night at the Eisner Awards, Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez was one of the recipients of the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, which was created in 1984 to honor those people in comics and the popular arts who have worked to help others.
Miranda-Rodriguez published the benefit anthology Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico last year, following the destruction that Puerto Rico suffered from Hurricane Maria. So far the anthology has raised more than $200,000 for the La Borinqueña Grants Program, which provides money to local grassroots organizations in Puerto Rico.
“I am a social justice warrior,” Miranda-Rodriguez proudly said during his acceptance speech last night, noting the history comic books have in fighting for social justice. He has posted his powerful speech on YouTube, which you can watch in full below.

The winners were announced last night for the 2019 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
Tom King and Mitch Gerads, partners on the Mister Miracle series from DC, took home five awards between them. John Allison’s Giant Days and The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang also took home multiple awards.
The Eisner Awards also inducted 10 people into the Hall of Fame last night: the judges chose Jim Aparo, June Tarpé Mills, Dave Stevens and Morrie Turner, while voters chose José Luis García-López, Jenette Kahn, Paul Levitz, Wendy and Richard Pini, and Bill Sienkiewicz to join the class of 2019.
Other awards given out last night included the The Bill Finger Excellence In Comic Book Writing Award, which was presented to Mike Friedrich and the late E. Nelson Bridwell, and the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award, which went to Lorena Alvarez.
The 2019 recipients of the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award were Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, for his work on Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico, and comic artist Tula Lotay, AKA Lisa Wood, for creating the UK-based Thought Bubble Festival. And La Revisteria Comics in Argentina won the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award.
