J.M. DeMatteis returns to Spider-Man + Kraven for ‘The Lost Hunt’

Eder Messias will provide the art for the five-issue miniseries.

J.M. DeMatteis, who wrote one of the best and most popular Spider-Man stories of all time, “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” will return to both characters in a new miniseries in November.

Like many of Marvel’s recent projects, Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt isn’t set in the present day Marvel U. — it’s set around the time of Spider-Man: The Final Adventure, when Ben Reilly took over as Spider-Man in New York and a powerless Peter Parker settled down with Mary Jane on the opposite coast. A run-in with a man from Kraven’s past will allow DeMatteis to “dive into Kraven’s origins, revealing secrets and answering mysteries Spidey fans have been waiting for.”

Marvel announces ‘Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise’

Tradd Moore writes and draws a new miniseries this fall featuring the sorcerer supreme.

Tradd Moore, creator of Silver Surfer Black and artist of Luther Strode, will bring his unique style to a new miniseries featuring Doctor Strange.

Written and drawn by Moore, Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise #1 is a four-issue miniseries, which will feature wraparound covers by Moore:

Claremont + Larroca return to ‘X-Treme X-Men’

X-treme ways are back again.

Chris Claremont and Salvador Larroca will return to their extreme ways with a new X-Treme X-Men miniseries set right after their initial run on the title.

X-Treme X-Men was first published back in 2001 for almost 50 issues, and then returned in 2012 with an Exiles-like story that brought together mutants from around the multiverse. But you don’t have to worry about that second volume, because this one picks up right after the first volume.

“I’m very happy to be teaming up with Chris again to bring back the adventures of the X-Treme X-Men!” Larroca said. “It’s been a long time and I’ve missed this team and this book that I consider a child of mine. I hope fans enjoy what we’re doing with this new run—there’s lots of new histories to tell. This is the book that Chris Claremont fans have been waiting for and I’m proud to once again illustrate his awesome plots. Let’s make this an instant classic!”

South Korean superteam Tiger Division leaps into its own miniseries

Emily Kim and Creees Lee will chronicle new adventures for the team starting in November.

Following their introduction last year in Black Cat and Taskmaster, South Korean superheroes Tiger Division will debut in their own miniseries later this year. The five-issue series will be written by Emily Kim and drawn by Creees Lee.  

“I’m so excited to be launching Tiger Division’s first limited series,” Kim said. “As a lifelong fan of comics, I never thought I’d get the chance to write for an all-Korean group. Hopefully it’s not the last and there will be many more Tiger Division stories to come.”

Strange Academy returns in October with ‘Strange Academy: Finals’

Class is back in session, courtesy of Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos.

Marvel’s magical teens will return in October to finish out their freshman year in Strange Academy: Finals. Although the series receives a reboot with a new first issue, fans will be happy to know that the creative team of Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos are still in charge at the academy.

The first series, Strange Academy, ended just this past month with some heavy revelations and a field trip to the dark dimension. Young promises we’ll see the ramifications from the first series’ final issue.

“This is a real passion project for me and Humberto, and we’ve never had so much fun making this project,” Young said. “All of the high school teen drama between Dormammu’s son Doyle and Emily Bright is going to come back, but this is not just a continuation of the next day of class! You will see the ramifications of how the first series ended, and we’re going to be focusing on some really cool characters. And with the prophecy over the last few years…someone’s going to come out of this changed in a big way.”

Starfox slides into your DMs — and ‘Judgment Day’ — in October

A.X.E.: Starfox puts the spotlight on Thanos’ creepy brother.

Starfox, the former Avenger with the creepy powers who is also Thanos’ brother, will get a one-shot this fall as part of Marvel’s big AXE: Judgement Day event.

Kieron Gillen, writer of both the Eternals series and Judgement Day, will write the one-shot, with Daniele Di Nicuolo on art.

“A new Eternals-related special has been announced, with me working with the kinetic powerhouse that is Daniele Di Nicuolo,” Gillen said in his newsletter. “While it’s part of Judgment Day, this is effectively the fourth of my deep dive Eternals specials.”

Cantwell + Ferry dive into ‘Namor the Sub-Mariner’ this Fall

“This book is basically my love letter to Marvel Comics itself.”

Christopher Cantwell and Pasqual Ferry will team for a new series starring Namor the Sub-Mariner, subtitled “Conquered Shores.”

“This is the first idea I ever blind pitched to Marvel and I’m thrilled that they said yes,” Cantwell said on Twitter.

Marvel reopens the ‘Crypt of Shadows’ this October

Just in time for Halloween, Marvel will present an anthology of horror stories by Adam Warren, Chris Cooper, Al Ewing, Geoff Shaw and more.

Marvel will dust off an old 1970s title this October, as the Crypt of Shadows once again opens its door for horror, mayhem and fun.

The one-shot anthology will feature stories by Chris Cooper, Al Ewing, Danny Lore, Rebecca Roanhorse, Adam Warren, Chris Condon, Karen S. Darboe, Geoff Shaw, Ibrahim Moustafa and more. They’ll tell stories featuring Moon Knight, Wolverine, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, Morbius and Bloodline, the recently introduced daughter of Blade.

The Hulk’s ‘Joe Fixit’ persona returns in a new miniseries at Marvel

Peter David and Yildiray Cinar bring the grey-skinned mob bodyguard returns to comics next year.

Following the recent string of miniseries featuring the villainous Maestro, Peter David will next turn his attention to a different — but equally as unpleasant — Hulk persona, Joe Fixit.

The co-creator of Hulk’s grey-skinned “mobster bodyguard” personality will team with artist Yildiray Cinar for a new miniseries set during David’s original run on Incredible Hulk.

‘Wakanda’ takes the spotlight in new miniseries

Stephanie Williams, Paco Medina, Evan Narcisse, Natacha Bustos and more will tell stories about Shurt, Killmonger and more.

Spinning out of recent events in the ongoing Black Panther series, Marvel has announced Wakanda, a five-issue miniseries that will feature Shuri, Killmonger and other residents of the African nation in solo stories.

The first issue will spotlight Shuri in a story by Stephanie Williams and Paco Medina.

“I’ve been such a huge fan of the Black Panther over the years, especially the evolution and expansion of the women of Wakanda,” Williams said. “It’s truly an honor to kick off the new series with the Shuri story I wrote. I hope I can add to her and Wakanda’s already impressive lore.”

Subsequent issues will feature different characters by different creators. Each issue will also include a back-up story, “History of the Black Panthers,” by Evan Narcisse and Natacha Bustos, which will expand on the lore of previous Black Panthers.

‘Avengers Unlimited’ coming to Infinity Comics

David Pepose, Farid Karami and Alan Robinson present a story featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and more.

Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort revealed in his Substack newsletter over the weekend plans for a new Infinity Comics series called Avengers Unlimited.

“The idea is to curate a mixture of longer and short stories from all across the length and breadth of the Avengers concept,” Brevoort explained. “But they’re all new, all designed for this format, and all taking place within current mainstream Marvel continuity.”

Marvel’s Infinity Comics line lives on its Marvel Unlimited service and offers “vertical stories” formatted to easily scroll through on a mobile device. Avengers Unlimited follows last year’s X-Men Unlimited, which featured various mutant characters by rotating creative teams.
