Jacket required: Steve Orlando + friends return to Avengers Mansion for ‘Avengers Assemble’

The second ‘Avengers’ title will feature some old classics and some new faces.

Avengers old and new will assemble under the leadership of Steve Rogers in Avengers Assemble, which launches in September.

Scarlet Witch and The Scale Trade writer Steve Orlando will work with several different artists on the series, including Cory Smith, Scot Eaton, Marcelo Ferreira and more, with Smith drawing the first issue.

As for the premise, it follows the current Avengers storyline that’s running during Blood Hunt, which has Captain America assembling a ragtag team to battle vampires while the primary Avengers team goes up against Blade and his minions. Steve Rogers will also head up this new team, which will include several classic Avengers, like Wonder Man, Hercules, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Wasp and Photon, along with some more obscure Avengers like Shang Chi and Lightning, plus two new faces to the team — former New Warriors leader Night Thrasher and Power Pack’s Lightspeed.

“This is a great time to assemble!” Orlando shared. “Avengers Assemble is bringing a murderer’s row of classic Avengers back to the Mansion, and classic comics storytelling is coming with it! A team of icons and new recruits alike, but heavy on the icons! And in every issue, a barnburner of an entire story packed into 20 pages!”

Marvel’s upcoming Avengers Assemble crossover is set to kick off in Avengers Assemble Alpha later this month, but Marvel’s already teasing what’s in store for the big multiversal event in February.

Those plans include more info on Avenger Prime, the “most important Avenger in the Multiverse,” as well as the introduction of Doom the Living Planet! You’d have to have a pretty big Ego to turn yourself into a planet, so it’s no surprise to see a multiverse version of Dr. Doom has done exactly that.

Image Comics is serving up a Christmas treat for Criminal fans in the pages of their Image! 30th anniversary anthology. Creators Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have created a Christmas story starring Teeg Lawless in a take-off of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.

“I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas-themed Criminal story since we first started the book,” said Brubaker. “So, Sean and I had a blast returning to that world for ‘Teeg’s Christmas Carol.’ Twelve pages of bad dad Christmases and history lessons.”

Phillips drew the cover, which features a cigarette puffing, Santa-hat wearing Teeg:

NYCC: Marvel’s 2023 events include Summer of Symbiotes, Fall of X

And what’s this about the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Sins of Sinister, the X-Men-centered event Marvel announced during their Next Big Thing panel today, isn’t the only 2023 event the publisher revealed to attendees. In a page from those MCU “big reveal” panels where they’ll put up a graphic showing all the movies and Disney+ shows on the docket, Marvel Comics had a graphic of their own at NYCC, outlining a few events we already knew about and a few new ones coming next summer.

Here’s a rundown of what we know and what we learned …

‘Avengers Assemble’ wraps up Jason Aaron’s Avengers run

The crossover event kicks off in December with an “Alpha” issue.

The upcoming Avengers Assemble crossover, which will bring together Avengers, Avengers Forever and and the Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C., will wrap up Jason Aaron’s almost five-year run of Avengers stories, Marvel announced this week.

Announced this past July at the San Diego Comic-Con, Avengers Assemble kicks off with an “Alpha” issue in December, drawn by Bryan Hitch. Aaron has said the crossover, which will run through both Avengers and Avengers Forever, will bring together story elements not only from those two titles, but also his other work at Marvel. Marvel has not announced how long the crossover will go or when Aaron’s last issues of both titles will be.

“Four years of Avengers stories. Threads from really every major series I’ve worked on throughout my last decade and a half at Marvel, from Ghost Rider to Thor. It all leads to this. The biggest Avengers story I could possibly imagine,” Aaron said. “Featuring a cavalcade of characters from across creation. And I’m so deeply thrilled and honored that it all kicks off with an oversized ALPHA issue that’s being drawn by the legendary Bryan Hitch, who I’m getting to work with here for the very first time. Avengers Assemble. Say the words like a prayer. It’s the only thing that can save you.”

In addition to the Alpha issue, December also brings parts 2 and 3 of the crossover:

All of Aaron’s Avengers will collide in ‘Avengers Assemble’

The big event kicks off with ‘Avengers Assemble Alpha’ by Jason Aaron and Bryan Hitch in November.

During their Next Big Thing Panel in San Diego today, Marvel announced that all of the various Avengers titles Jason Aaron has worked on over the past few years — Avengers, Avengers Forever and Avengers of 1,000,000 BC — will come together in one epic crossover, suitably titled Avengers Assemble.

The event will kick off in an “alpha” issue, drawn by Bryan Hitch, that will land on Nov. 30.

“Four years of Avengers stories. Threads from really every major series I’ve worked on throughout my last decade and a half at Marvel, from Ghost Rider to Thor. It all leads to this,” Aaron said. “The biggest Avengers story I could possibly imagine. Featuring a cavalcade of characters from across creation.
