Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you from comics creators, publishers and more. Some of these are from this weekend’s New York Comic Con, while some are from before. Hit the links for more information.

DC held a panel focused on the Batman titles yesterday during New York Comic Con, revealing some new artwork and one new project — Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the DCU. It’s by Frank Tieri and Logan Faerber, both of whom have worked on the character before.

The ultra-rich face ultra-murders in Gailey + Kangas’ ‘Know Your Station’

The new five-issue miniseries debuts in December from BOOM! Studios.

Eat the Rich writer Sarah Gailey and Trve Kvlt artist Liana Kangas will team up for Know Your Station, a new miniseries coming from BOOM! Studios.

As the Earth dies due to the climate crisis, the ultra-rich head into space, thinking they’re safe — until a murderer begins targeting them.

“I could not be more excited to explore new frontiers of wealth and violence in Know Your Station, a series in which space is no longer the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism,” said Gailey. “Working with Liana Kangas to develop this series has been a source of incredible creative joy, and there couldn’t be a better home for this story than BOOM! I am just thrilled to get to work with Liana to shine a light on the gory inner workings of the 1%.”

Slugfest | ‘Radio Apocalypse’ goes on indefinite hiatus

Plus: A new Secret Stash title, Poison Ivy grows and Marvel Masterworks gets reprinted.

Vault Comics and writer Ram V have announced via press release that the comic series Radio Apocalypse will go on “an indefinite hiatus.” The series, which suffered delays before launch, only saw two issues published.

“We launched this book with much excitement and to celebration and acclaim,” Ram V said in the statement. “And for that I have readers, retailers and everyone who worked on this book to thank. Unfortunately, in the time since, Anand, Aditya and I have been through some rough times. I will allow everyone including myself some privacy but suffice to say health issues, bouts of COVID and some difficult family emergencies on my end have meant that we have been unable to work on this book with the care and attention it deserves.”

The series, which reunited Ram V with Anand RK, who he worked with on Grafity’s Wall, was about the last radio station on Earth.

Stare into horror this fall in ‘Specs’

The new title by David M. Booher and Chris Shehan arrives from BOOM! Studios in November.

Writer David M. Booher, artist Chris Shehan and colorist Roman Stevens will present a classic view of horror in Specs, a new miniseries coming from BOOM! Studios this fall.

Powerbunga: BOOM!, IDW announce second Power Rangers/Ninja Turtles crossover

The new miniseries by Ryan Parrott and Dan Mora will kick off in December.

It was three years ago during the 2019 Comic-Con International that BOOM! Studios and IDW announced their first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover. And now the two properties are set to meet up once again, as BOOM! and IDW have announced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.

Ryan Parrott, who wrote the first crossover, will team with World’s Finest artist Dan Mora for the sequel.

Horror takes flight in BOOM! Studios’ ‘The Approach’

Jeremy Haun, Jason A. Hurley and Jesús Hervás will unleash a terror from the past in the new series.

Jeremy Haun, Jason A. Hurley and Jesús Hervás will fly the unfriendly skies this October in The Approach, a new horror series coming from BOOM! Studios.

“The Approach is the story of a plane that crash lands at a small regional airport in the middle of a snow storm…after being missing for 20 years…and the horrible thing that came back with it,” said Haun. “It’s our love letter to ’80s monster horror, with an absolutely terrifying creature, conjured up by our amazing series artist, Jesús Hervás.”

Spurrier + Adlard will ‘Damn Them All’ in October

The new series from BOOM! Studios pits an occultist for hire against the 72 devils of the Ars Goetia.

BOOM! Studios has announced that Step by Bloody Step writer Simon Spurrier will team with The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard for a new horror series titled Damn Them All in October.

“Damn Them All is the right project at the right time. A series mixing crime and occultism, it’s the perfect fusion of Charlie’s peerless storytelling and my own ghastly preoccupations,” said Spurrier. “It’s hard boiled, it’s clever, it’s bleakly funny, but above all it’s angry to its core. Angry at the world, at the injustice, at the £$%#s who run the show, and ultimately at the creator responsible for this utterly imperfect creation. This is a book about demons, in which—spoilers—the demons aren’t the bad guys.”

R.L. Stine + A.L. Kaplan deliver the ‘Stuff of Nightmares’ at BOOM!

The new miniseries kicks off in September

Goosebumps author R.L. Stine, who has spent decades giving children nightmares through his stories, will turn now to adults in Stuff of Nightmares, a new miniseries coming from BOOM! Studios.

Stine will team up with artist A.L. Kaplan and colorist Roman Titov for his first creator-owned comics series.

“AT LAST I’m free to let my most horrific fantasies out! Hey, kids– stay away from Stuff of Nightmares,” said R.L. Stine. “It’s my first horror comic book work for grownups. Ghastly, gory, and I hope, good stomach-churning fun!”

Cantwell + García awaken ‘Briar’ at BOOM!

What if Sleeping Beauty had to save herself?

The Blue Flame writer Christopher Cantwell and Ka-Zar: Lord of the Savage Land artist Germán García will retell the story of Sleeping Beauty as “an epic dark fantasy adventure” in a new miniseries coming from BOOM! Studios. They’ll be joined by colorist Matheus Lopes, who has been doing some phenomenal work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Cantwell sited the creator of Conan the Barbarian as an inspiration for the series.

“I’ve never gotten a chance to tell a high fantasy story of any kind, but I’ve always wanted to, ever since I discovered old Robert E. Howard stories. One thing that kept me hesitant was finding a proper way in—something new and different that also celebrates all the sword & sorcery fun seen in the best of the genre,” Cantwell said. “In tandem, as I grow older, the world around us seems less and less stable with so many things falling into crisis. These two things came together in my head in the form of Briar… here’s someone that remembers the world one way, during a time of sheltered innocence, but has now overslept… and found herself in a place of complete entropic disarray. The question is, how will she even survive? And what happens when the plans for the entire rest of your life turn out to be completely meaningless and absurd? Where do you turn to in order to conjure up your own new meaning and purpose?”

Quick Hits | More details emerge on several Frank Miller Presents projects

Featuring news on Dan DiDio, Christian Cooper, two new comics retailers and more.

Over the weekend, IGN posted a story featuring artwork and quotes from Dan DiDio about Frank Miller Presents, the new initiative he’s been named publisher for. They also revealed the date of publication for Ronin: Book Two, the first project coming out of FMP — Nov. 23. Miller is working with Phillip Tan and Daniel Henriques on the sequel to his 1980s miniseries.

“Frank’s intimately involved in everything going on. The reason why we’re doing Ronin is because it’s never been exploited before,” DiDio told IGN. “We feel that there’s a lot of areas that Frank has story for. And actually, he’s had this story in mind for Ronin: Book Two since the end of the original series 40 years ago. So this is exciting for him to be able to tell that story because he still carries it with him and he’s finally getting it out.”

‘Wynd’ soars again in August

James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas return to the skies of Esseriel for a new five-issue miniseries.

James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas will return to the world of Wynd this August for another miniseries subtitled “The Throne in the Sky.”

“Wynd at its heart is about how people resist change in themselves and the world around them, and how that fear fills them with hate. It’s about how young people must navigate a world in which change is necessary, and overcome that hate to find themselves and find a path forward for their people and their world,” said Tynion IV. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Michael Dialynas to bring the Wynd saga to a whole new level. The stage has been set, the world of Esseriel is at the brink of war, and our band of teenagers are at the heart of unraveling a centuries old mystery that could change the face of their world forever. This is where our Fantasy epic kicks into a high gear, and moves ever closer to its action-packed climax. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for you.”

Back in the early 1990s Wolverine, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and Hulk had a brief team-up in the pages of Fantastic Four while the actual Fantastic Four were out of town. It was a fun story by Walt Simonson and Art Adams that only last a few issues. But now Marvel will revisit that team — and time period — in The New Fantastic Four, a limited series by Peter David and Alan Robinson.

“Although their original stint was extremely short-lived, the alternate version of the FF has had its fans for years, including myself,” David said. “I am fortunate Marvel has given me the opportunity to revisit with them and take their battles to new heights in a new location with new allies and new enemies.”

Like Maestro and X-Men Legends, this story takes place in the past, shortly after the quartet’s first appearance.
