Ahmed + Ferreyra return to ‘Spine-Tingling Spider-Man’ in October

The Marvel Unlimited series gets a print sequel just in time for Halloween.

Following a collection of the Marvel Unlimited series in September, Marvel will release a new four-issue Spine-Tingling Spider-Man miniseries starting in October.

The digital series by writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Juan Ferreyra put Peter Parker through the ringer, and it looks like it only gets worse for the wall-crawler as he ends up powerless in a haunted house.

“We’re putting Peter through a grueling horror movie grinder, and that resilient spirit of his will be tested like never before,” Ahmed said. “I tapped into some darkness writing this, but the real star here is Juan’s mind-blowing, visionary work—which is genuinely some of the best Spider-art I’ve ever seen.”

It’s the kids from ‘Strange Academy’ vs. mathematics in a series of one-shots

Author Carlos Hernandez chaperones a trip to New York for the magical prodigies to meet Miles Morales, Moon Knight and more.

Their ongoing series might have ended, but school is back in session later this year for the students of Strange Academy.

Author Carlos Hernandez (Sal and Gabi Break the Universe) will take the kids on a field trip to New York to meet Moon Knight and two Spider-Man this fall, as the kids enter the Multiversal Math Bowl and take on a new enemy called The Equation. I always knew higher math was evil.

Here’s a look at the three one-shots, all written by Hernandez and featuring artwork by Juann Cabal, Julian Shaw and Vasco Georgiev:

Rest in Peace, John Romita Sr.

The iconic artist of ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ and art director for Marvel passed away at the age of 93.

John Romita Sr., one of the greatest Spider-Man artists of all time and the amn who defined the look of many Marvel characters across several decades, has passed away, his son reported on social media. He was 93 years old.

“He was the greatest man I ever met,” John Romita Jr. said on Twitter. He said his father passed away “peacefully in his sleep.”

While Romita’s career started in the late 1940s with runs at Timely and then DC, where he drew romance comics in the late 1950s and 1960s, he’s best known for his long tenure at Marvel. He joined the company in 1965 to draw Daredevil, but soon replaced the departing Steve Ditko on Amazing Spider-Man, the character he’d most be associated with.

Chaos reigns in Marvel’s annuals this summer

Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and more will be drawn into a plot by Agatha Harkness in ‘Contest of Chaos.’

There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned summer annual crossover, nor is there anything like a good old-fashioned superhero tournament. And Marvel has both going on this summer.

In the spirit of Atlantis Attacks and Contest of Champions, this summer will bring Contest of Chaos, which will run through several Marvel annuals and features a rejuvenated Agatha Harkness using her chaos magic to cause “Let’s you and him fight” confrontations between different Marvel characters.

Stephanie Phillips is spearheading the event, which will kick off with a prelude issue in Scarlet Witch Annual #1 by Steve Orlando and Carlos Nieto. It’ll then run through eight other Marvel annuals, including the big finale in Avengers Annual #1 in September.

Here’s a rundown of who is fighting who, and when and where …

The comic by Christos Gage and Ig Guara will be available tomorrow.

The story is set between the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game and the upcoming Spider-Man 2, which is scheduled to be released later this year. This marks the return of video game world, aka the “Gamerverse,” to comics, as it previously appeared in the Spider-Verse crossover series Spider-Geddon as well as several miniseries that followed the first game.

‘Spider-Man’ #7 will introduce Spider-Boy

Spider-Man’s long-lost sidekick will debut this week.

This Wednesday’s Spider-Man not only continues the “End of Spider-Verse” storyline by Dan Slott and Mark Bagley, but will also introduce a new character to the 616 — Spider-Boy.

No, he’s not another alternate universe version of Spider-Man. According to Marvel, he’s part of the 616 and is Spider-Man’s “long-lost sidekick.” Readers of that title know that Spider-Man was recently removed from the Web of Life (or whatever it’s called) and no doubt he’s going to be added back, and it looks like he’ll be getting a retconned sidekick as well. I’m getting some Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes here.

“I can’t wait for people to meet Bailey, and the unique role he’s going to play in both Spider-Man’s world and the Marvel Universe,” Slott told Marvel.com. “I grew up reading Spider-Man comics. He’s my favorite character in all of fiction. All I ever wanted to do was tell stories with THIS cast, and it’s been the coolest thing ever to co-create some of the characters who populate it. And this kid, this Spider-Boy, is THE one I’m most psyched about!”

Here’s the variant cover for Spider-Man #7 by Spider-Boy co-creator Humberto Ramos:

Marvel returns to the ‘Edge of Spider-Verse’

Zander Cannon, Karla Pacheco, Pere Pérez and more present new stories starring Spider-Rex, Spinstress and more.

If you thought the Spider-Verse was ending — and why wouldn’t you? It was right there in the title, “End of Spider-Verse” — think again. Marvel has announced another Edge of Spider-Verse anthology miniseries that will feature more Spider-themed stories and characters.

The first issue will include a cover by Patrick Brown as well as:

Carnage reigns over Miles Morales this May

Alex Paknadel, Cody Ziglar, Julius Ohta and more will pit the “greener” Spider-Man against the sadistic symbiote.

Miles Morales and friends will face off with Carnage in a crossover event that will run through both their titles starting in May.

Carnage Reigns will kick off with an alpha issue by writers Alex Paknadel and Cody Ziglar, and artist Julius Ohta. The seven-part crossover will run through issues of Carnage, Miles Morales: Spider-Man and the recently launched Red Goblin. Oh, and Iron Man is involved, as Carnage is trapped in the “Extrembiote Armor” Tony Stark created during King in Black. The whole thing will wrap up in an omega issue in June.

Carnage Reigns is an old-fashioned David and Goliath story pitting a greener Spider-Man against the most sadistic monster in the Marvel Universe—Cletus Kasady!” Paknadel explained to Bloody Disgusting. “Miles has only been this out of his depth on a handful of occasions, which is a gift from a storytelling perspective. I’ve really enjoyed crafting this tale with Cody Ziglar, and we’ve developed a really fun, really productive working shorthand and that fun is present on the page! We know this story will satisfy fans of both characters in their first-ever crossover!”

April’s Marvel’s Voices anthology will focus on the Spider-Verse

The anthology returns with new stories featuring Miles Morales, Silk and more.

Marvel has announced that their April Marvel’s Voices anthology will focus on a specific character family — Spider-Man and his, um, Amazing Friends. Marvel’s Voices: Spider-Verse will arrive in stores April 5.

Marvel has shifted their approach to their Marvel’s Voices anthology series, as they continue to expand the brand into different places. In addition to adding new digital stories under that banner to Marvel Unlimited, they’ve now announced two anthologies focused on specific character families. Marvel’s Voices: Wakanda Forever will land in February, just in time for Black History Month.

Marvel’s 2023 Free Comic Book Day offerings will feature X-Men, Spider-Man, Venom and more

‘Summer of Symbiotes,’ ‘Fall of X’ and more will be previewed by Marvel next May.

Marvel has announced their plans for next year’s Free Comic Book Day event, as the publisher will release four free comics on that day.

Just like they did this year, Marvel will use FCBD to promote several of their upcoming events, like Summer of Symbiotes and Fall of X. They’ll also have another Marvel’s Voices issue, and will round things out with a title aimed at the younger set — Spidey & His Amazing Friends, which will adapt the Disney Junior TV show.
